The Mustang at 50: Inside the Evolution of an American Icon
Fifty years ago today, Ford unveiled the Mustang. It was a sleek and sporty car, named for a fighter plane and slightly European in flavor. Company brass hoped it might be something of a hit and expected to sell 100,000 of them in the first year.
They sold 22,000 on the first day.
Everyone, even people who hate cars, knows the rest of the story. Yet it would be difficult to overstate the impact the Mustang had on Ford, on the auto industry and on popular culture. It was more than a car. It was a phenomenon. Few cars are so instantly recognizable, or as widely adored, as the first-generation Mustang.
The car singlehandedly created the most American of automobiles, the pony car—relatively small, relatively light and often absurdly powerful coupes with names like Camaro and Challenger. By 1967, everyone in Detroit offered one. Many of them have come and gone and come back again, but the Mustang has endured.
personally, i still think the original 1964 mustang was the sexiest of them all…
maybe that’s just me.
to be honest, i was sort of on the fence about this new x-men movie… but after watching this trailer, i stand corrected because it looks totally badass.
almost thought i caught Quicksilver in there, which would be a little bit confusing if true..? hmmm, dunno.
PlayStation 4 is getting an update with a video editing app for you to customize gameplay videos
looks like some pretty cool video editing features for PS4 users… not sure about editing vids, but the Xbox One has been quietly rolling out updates in the background every month or so — mostly refinements, though.
Sony passes 7 million PlayStation 4 units sold globally
WordPress 3.9 arrives with better media editing, gallery previews, audio and video playlists, and more
WordPress.org today announced the debut of WordPress 3.9, which adds a slew of “refinements” to the blog management tool. You can download the new release now from WordPress.org/Download (it’s 6.0MB).
Dubbed “Smith” in honor of African-American jazz musician Jimmy Smith, WordPress 3.9 is supposed to give users a better understanding of how their content will look once it is published.
The new features are as follows:
- Improved visual editing: The new visual editor has improved speed, accessibility, and mobile support. You can paste into it from your word processor without wasting time to clean up messy styling.
- Edit images easily: With quicker access to crop and rotation tools, it’s now much easier to edit your images while editing posts and scale images directly in the editor.
- Drag and drop your images: Uploading your images is now as simple as grabbing them from your desktop and dropping them in the editor.
- Gallery previews: Galleries display a beautiful grid of images right in the editor, just like they do in your published post.
- Do more with audio and video: Images have galleries, and now media clips have playlists.
well damn, i literally just updted like a dozen servers just the other day to version 3.8.3, and now they released 3.9 — i just can’t win.
i’ll try the update here on my blog first, i think.

Questions mount in South Korean ferry disaster; hundreds still missing
Jindo, South Korea (CNN) — Anguished relatives of missing South Korean ferry passengers waited sullenly for answers Thursday as rescuers fought bad weather, murky water, darkness and time to find a way deep into the capsized ship.
Authorities believe 287 people — many of them high school students on a field trip — remain trapped inside the five-story ship. At least some, authorities say, could still be alive more than a day after the ship rolled over.
Meanwhile, the ferry’s captain is facing mounting questions about the incident.
i remember seeing some tweets about this yesterday, but thought most of the people on it got off… 287 people? daaaamn… how the hell does a ferry capsize like that anyways? i mean, it’s a ferry, so one would assume it’s probably ferrying people across daily.
time to pause for a few moments and enjoy the fact that we’ve all made it through the halfway point of yet another week… as i get older, it’s all about the small things. *g*
here’s a few more random booties.
happy hump day!
just stumbled across this and kinda weirded me out a little.
just wondered if any of you guys happened to watch “fargo” lastnight? i got home just in time to sit down and tune in, which was great since i was curious about the show anyways.
i’ve been a fan of Justified for the past couple years and was a little bummed that the season ended (damnit), but Fargo does look like a great follow-up show.
pretty damned bloody for the first episode, too… and that Minnesota accent cracks me up for some reason. *chuckle*
In the latest episode of Archer, Doctor Krieger entered a launch code…
a little crazy to see all the samsung galaxy sizes — i didn’t realize there were so many.
on the flipside, i have a feeling it’ll start to look the same for apple once the iphone 6 rolls out this fall… 4″ iphone, 4.7″ iphone, 5.5″ iphone, the ipad and ipad mini, etc.
i saw this guy earlier struggle to get his phone out of his front pocket of his jeans, which looked pretty damned funny… then he finally whipped out his phone, which looked to be one of the larger 5.5″ phones and i couldn’t help but think, “yeah, that’s exactly what i’m talking about dude.”
i know i’ve said this before, but the UI of these windows phones does look rather busy, y’know? maybe it’s simply because i’m not used to it… but i usually think the same thing everytime i see one.
What if women where horny all day long?

What Could You Accomplish in the 111 Days It Takes to Reach Tax Freedom Day?
American’s will spend 111 days working to pay off the combined $4.5 trillion federal, state, and local tax bill in 2014, according to the latest Tax Freedom Day report.
To offer some perspective on just how long 111 days really is, here are a few things you could accomplish in the time it takes the nation to reach Tax Freedom Day on April 21.
The average required qualifying time for the guaranteed entrance to the New York City Marathon is about 4 hours. At that pace, if you ran non-stop, 24/7, you could completed 666 races for a total of 17,462 miles.
A regular NFL season lasts 256 games, around 3 hours each, for a total of 768 hours of game time and commercials. You could watch the equivalent of every single game of more than three NFL seasons, including commercials, before reaching Tax Freedom Day. [...]
In 1969, the Apollo 11 mission took 3 days and 3 hours to reach the moon, and 8 days and 3 hours for the total round trip. At those rates, we could reach the moon 98 times or complete 13 Apollo 11 missions.
i almost completely forgot that today, april 15th, was tax day — probably because i filed back in the beginning of march, which feels like ages ago right now… then again, just like 70 million people around the country, today was just… tuesday… since they don’t pay federal income taxes from what i’ve read.
i never really thought about it like this, but thinking about how i work over 111 days a year to pay the government really kinda burrs my ass. unbelievable.
p.s. aside from the 442 proposed tax increases, obama paid 18.4% in taxes, which means he must have some exceptionally gifted tax attorneys working for him… which is totally “fair”, since he’s not in the top 1% or anything.
almost forgot about titty tuesday, but then again i figure kate upton usually fits the bill… but what the hell, here’s a pic i just stumbled across.
not showing much in the funbag department, but she gets extra points for the t-shirt in my book.
now that’s one sexy sandwich right there… candice and adriana.
