What happened: The Broncos erased a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter, with QB Peyton Manning throwing a 26-yard TD pass to TE Jacob Tamme up the sideline and the tying two-point conversion to WR Demaryius Thomas with 18 seconds to go in regulation. But the Seahawks won the toss in overtime and marched 80 yards in 13 plays for the winning score – a 6-yard TD plunge by RB Marshawn Lynch 5 minutes, 46 seconds into OT.
What we’ll be talking about: This was the fight to the finish everyone expected in Super Bowl XLVIII – other than the sloppiness that preceded it. The Broncos’ offense struggled most of the day, but the revamped defense made multiple plays to give them a chance: a safety on Lynch, and an interception by CB Chris Harris that set up Denver’s first touchdown. The Seahawks didn’t flinch, though. And Lynch, who’d been bottled up much of the day, was at his best when it counted, gaining 19 yards on three carries in the extra period. Another rematch in Arizona in February doesn’t sound so bad.
even though we lost the game in OT (fuck), it was still one helluva game and i think my broncos can walk away with their heads held high… after the super bowl last year — still find it hard to talk about — and then playing the seahawks at home, one of the toughest damn places to play in all of sports if you ask me… they did pretty damn good, and that 4th quarter rally to tie it up at the end was a thing of beauty.
…if only we could’ve at least kept them to a fieldgoal there at the very end in OT… damnit… oh well.
